Chennai, Oct 29 (UNI) IITM Pravartak and Dialog Axiata PLC, Sri Lanka's number one connectivity provider, has signed a MoU to advance applied research, innovation and technology development in Sri Lanka.
The MoU for this strategic partnership, which was signed in Colombo, marks an important milestone in India-Sri Lanka cooperation. It brings together international expertise, local universities and industry stakeholders to develop practical solutions to national and societal challenges. It also seeks to strengthen Sri Lanka's research capabilities and create opportunities to translate new ideas into real-world applications.
Commenting on the significance of the partnership, Santosh Jha, Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, said, “India and Sri Lanka share a longstanding and multifaceted relationship, underpinned by strong historical ties and a shared commitment to progress. Under the MoU, Dialog will serve as the collaboration anchor and technology enabler, connecting IITM Pravartak's research networks with Sri Lankan universities and relevant government and industry stakeholders. The partnership will explore five key areas: innovation and incubation, applied research and university laboratories, artificial intelligence and human-centric solutions, industry skills and talent development, and international knowledge sharing.

Potential areas for initial collaboration include Sinhala and Tamil conversational AI, technology-driven dengue prevention and response, and solutions to address human-elephant conflict. These will be explored through focused research initiatives and pilot projects, with opportunities for further development based on their outcomes.
The partnership will adopt a phased approach, beginning with selected pilot projects to evaluate their potential before exploring opportunities to scale, ensuring that each initiative is guided by clearly defined objectives and measurable outcomes.
