Amaravati, May 20 (UNI) Conditions are likely to become favourable for the onset of the southwest monsoon over Kerala during the next 4–5 days, the Meteorological Centre said on Tuesday.
In a daily weather report here, it said that the conditions are also favourable for the further advance of the southwest monsoon into additional parts of the South Arabian Sea, the remaining areas of the Maldives and Comorin region, parts of the Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and further into more areas of the South and Central Bay of Bengal, the Northeast Bay of Bengal, and parts of the northeastern states during the same period.
An upper air cyclonic circulation over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Coastal Andhra Pradesh now lies over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal, adjoining south Andhra Pradesh and north Tamil Nadu. It extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards with height.
Meanwhile, the trough extending from the southeast Bay of Bengal to North Interior Karnataka — across the above-mentioned cyclonic circulation over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema — between 1.5 and 5.8 km above mean sea level, has become less marked, the report added.
