Deep depression over Bay intensifies into Cyclonic Storm "Murasu", to concentrate further, cross AP coast by Nov 3

(RPTING CORRECTING DATE IN THE HEADLINE)
Chennai, Nov 1 (UNI) The Deep Depression over the Bay has intensified into Cyclonic Storm Murasu on Sunday and it would further intensify as Severe Cyclonic Storm tomorrow and cross the Andhra Pradesh coast between midnight and early morning of November 3 before weakening as Cyclonic Storm and further as Depression the same day.
Andhra Pradesh, which was yet to recover from the battering it had received from the Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Arnab, was bracing up to meet yet another Cyclone fury.
In a National Bulletin issued this afternoon, the IMD said the Deep Depression over Southwest and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 23 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into Cyclonic Storm "Murasu" (the Tamil name suggested by India).
It was called 'Murasu' as suggested by India to the list of names for tropical cyclones in the North Indian Ocean.
It lay centered at 1130 hours of today over Southwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal about 560 km east-southeast of Chennai (Tamil Nadu), 660 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 630 km east-southeast of Nellore (Andhra Pradesh), 640km southeast of Machilipatnam (Andhra Pradesh) and 680 km east-southeast of Ongole (Andhra Pradesh).
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over Westcentral Bay of Bengal tomorrow morning. Thereafter it is very likely to move northwestwards and cross south Andhra Pradesh coast as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100 to 110 kmph and gusting up 120 kmph between Nellore and Narsapur during midnight (2330 hrs) of November 2 to early hours (0400 hrs) November 3, 2026.
Meanwhile, the Regional Met Office Chennai said North coastal districts will start getting rains from tonight till November three, reviving the monsoon activity which battered several parts of Tamil Nadu for 12 days since its onset on October 15.
Perhaps, for the first time, four back to back systems had formed over the Bay in a short span of two weeks of which two systems back to back intensifying as Very Severe Cyclonic Storm 'Arnab' and Cyclonic Storm "Murasu". However, Cyclone Arnab spared Tamil Nadu and moved towards Andhra Pradesh and crossed the coast four days back. Since then a majority of districts in Tamil Nadu, including Chennai and its adjoining Northern districts, are facing dry weather with the mercury level raising with each passing day.
The second Cyclonic Storm "Murasu" too was expected to spare Tamil Nadu, except for heavy to very heavy showers in Northern districts for two days as it moved towards the coast, and drift towards Andhra Pradesh and cross the coast between tomorrow midnight and November three early morning.
According to an Independent weather blogger, the system, continuing the west-northwest track, was expected to reach the Westcentral Bay of Bengal off South Andhra Pradesh and adjoining North Coastal Tamil Nadu coasts during the next 36 hours. High vertical wind shear and dry air intrusion are expected to disturb the system’s core as it approaches the land. This makes the IMD’s Severe Cyclonic Storm category outlook surprising at this stage.
He said very slow movement or a stalling scenario is possible once the system gets close to the coast. Overall, a sheared system is heading towards the west-central Bay of Bengal and is likely to bring rainfall to North Tamil Nadu. No significant wind damage is expected over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh or North Tamil Nadu. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.
On the expected impact over Tamil Nadu, he said light to moderate rains likely to commence over extreme North Tamil Nadu districts such as Chennai, Tiruvallur, Chengalpet and Kanchipuram from tonight and tomorrow widespread moderate to rather heavy rains was expected over these districts and the Interior Ranipet district, with the spells extending to other district of Vellore, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur, Krishnagiri, Salem and Dharmapuri districts and heavy rainfall over North Tamil Nadu on November three.
Fishermen were advised not to venture into the sea during the next 4 days as the sea conditions would be rough to very rough.
