Yet another Low Pressure area forms over Bay, to intensify, to become Cyclonic Storm by Oct 26, NE Monsoon rain gathers more steam

Chennai, Oct 23 (UNI) A Fresh Low Pressure, the second in three days, has formed over the Bay, further intenfisying the Northeast Monsoon rainfall, which was battering several districts of Tamil Nadu with southern districts bearing the brunt of the rain-fury, even as the new system would intensify further and become a Cyclonic Storm on October 26, Monday.
Once it becomes a Cyclonic Storm, on Monday, it would be named Arnab as suggested by Bangladesh. It was unlikely to make any significant impact in Tamil Nadu as it was expected to move towards North Andhra and adjoining South Odisha Coasts in the subsequent two days.
In a special bulletin, the Met office on Friday afternoon said under the influence of yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over Southeast and adjoining Eastcentral Bay of Bengal, a Low Pressure area has formed over Eastcentral and adjoining Southeast Bay of Bengal at 0530 hours today.
It is most likely to persist over the same region and intensify into a Depression tomorrow. Thereafter, it is very likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify further into a Deep Depression on Sunday and into a Cyclonic storm over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal by October 26 morning.
It would then continue to intensify further and move west-northwestwards towards North Andhra Pradesh and adjoining South Odisha coasts during the subsequent 2 days.
Met office said yesterday’s Low Pressure Area over Southwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of Tamil Nadu now lay centred over Comorin area and adjoining areas of South Tamil Nadu and Keralam today, with rains pounding several southern districts and several dams filling to the brim.
The back to back systems, the NE monsoon rains, which was already more active and vigorous over Tamil Nadu, has now gathered more steam and the showers are set to become even more intense. Met office has predicted heavy to very heavy rains in southern, south coastal and Western Ghat regions and has issued Orange alert, it has also forecast heavy rains in North Coastal, Interior and Cauvery delta districts till October 26.
The Chennai, which remained rain-free for most part of the day, received sharp but intermittent showers from last night to Friday morning. The spells were heavy in some area and in adjoining districts, while the southern districts are wrecked by huge dwonpour. The delta districts too received copious showers, providing a huge relief to the farmers, who have taken up long term Samba crop cultivation after a none-too-satsified Kuruvai crop cultivation, due to non release of Mettur dam on the traditional date of June 12 due to poor storge and Karnataka not releasing Cauvery waters despite several orders by the Cauvery River Water Authority and the Cauvery Water Management Authority and the Tamil Nadu has filed multiple pleas in the Supreme Court seeking a direction to the neighbouring on water release.
With the met office forecasting enhanced rainfall activity in the coming days, the Tamil Nadu government has geared up its entire machinery to tackle the situation. Chief Minister today visited the State Disaster Management Control Room (also known as the State Emergency Operations Centre-SEOC), and reviewed the preventive measures put in place across all districts, including the number of relief centres opened to house those evacuated from lowlying areas, basic amenities, and deployment of NDRF and SDRF teams for relief and rescue measures, the possible impact on agriculture and standing crops and other horticultural crops, besides areas in Chennai and its suburbs prone to flooding.
Vijay also reviewed the arrangements made with Collectors of 16 districts via video-conferencing and directed them to ensure that all safety measures are put in place to tackle the monsoon fury.
