Chennai, May 17 (UNI) Rainfall occurred at many places over North Tamilnadu and at isolated places over South Tamilnadu and over Puducherry and Karaikal area due to the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the bay.
Met office on Saturday said there was fall in maximum temperature by 1-3 Deg C at a few places over Tamilnadu and rise by 1-3 Deg C at isolated places over Tamilnadu and Karaikal area.
It said maximum temperatures were above normal by 2 Deg C at isolated places over Tamilnadu. They were in the range of 35-41 Deg C over North Interior Tamilnadu; 37-38 Deg C over South
Interior Tamilnadu; 36-38 Deg C over North Coastal Tamilnadu, Puducherry, Karaikal area; 33-35
Deg C over South Coastal Tamilnadu and 20-27 Deg C over Hilly areas.
Southwest Monsoon further advanced over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area; South Bay of Bengal, remaining parts of Andaman Islands and Andaman Sea; and some parts of eastcentral Bay of Bengal today, the 17th May 2025.
Conditions are favorable for further advance of Southwest Monsoon over some more parts of South Arabian Sea, Maldives and Comorin area, South Bay of Bengal and Central Bay of Bengal and some parts of Northeast Bay of Bengal during the next 3-4 days.
Yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal persists and now seen between 1.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting Southwestwards with height.
A trough runs from the above cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal to Central Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam between 1.5 & 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting Southwestwards with height.
Yesterday’s upper air cyclonic circulation over West Central Bay of Bengal and adjoining North Coastal Andhra Pradesh at 1.5 km above mean sea level has merged with above trough.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over South Telangana at 0.9 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence light to moderate rain is likely to occur at a few places with thunderstorm and lightning with gusty winds with speed reaching 40-50 kmph over Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal area.
Heavy rain is likely to occur at isolated places in North Interior and Cauvery delta districts including Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Dharmapuri, Salem, Kallakurichi, Namakkal, Tiruchirappalli, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam districts and Karaikal area for the next two days.
Heavy rain is also likely to occur at isolated places over Krishnagiri, Dharmapuri, Tirupattur, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai districts.
Heavy rain will occur at isolated places over Nilgiris, Ghat areas of Coimbatore, Erode, Dharmapuri, Salem, Namakkal, Kallakurichi and Tiruchirappalli districts on Monday while heavy rain is is likely at isolated places over Nilgiris and Ghat areas of Coimbatore district on Tuesday.
The forecast for Chennai city is the sky condition will be partly cloudy with thunderstorm and lightning with light to moderate rain in some areas.
The maximum temperature remained over 34-35 Deg C.
