Telangana CM launches WE Hub women acceleration program

Hyderabad, May 17 (UNI) Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy inaugurated the WE Hub Women Acceleration Program in a grand ceremony held at JRC Convention Centre in Jubilee Hills on Saturday.

The event witnessed active participation from women entrepreneurs and self-help groups (SHGs), with several stalls set up on the premises to showcase their products. The Chief Minister visited the stalls, interacted with the participants, and encouraged their efforts.

Addressing the gathering, Revanth Reddy recalled the historic leadership of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, stating that when India fought wars with China and Pakistan, it was Indira who demonstrated to the world the strength of women.

He emphasised that it was women's power that led the country to victory and asserted that the Congress party has never underestimated the strength and role of women. He said women are ideals for the country and credited the Congress for proving that women are the backbone of national progress.

The Chief Minister reiterated his government's commitment to empowering women economically and socially. He declared that the Telangana government is working with a clear goal to make one crore women millionaires.

Referring to the state’s initiatives, he highlighted the free RTC bus travel scheme under Mahalaxmi, which he said had contributed to bringing the state transport corporation back to profits.

He spoke of reforms in education, mentioning that government schools have been entrusted to girls under the Amma Adarsh Schools initiative, and that the stitching of school uniforms has been handed over to women's groups to ensure livelihood support.

Revanth Reddy announced that his government is encouraging women to step into businesses traditionally dominated by corporate giants, such as petrol pumps and solar power projects.

He noted that SHGs have been given dedicated space at Shilparamam to display and sell their products, and that the state is now offering products made by these women as gifts to visiting dignitaries. He stressed that economic progress is possible only when girls grow with self-respect and confidence.

He drew attention to the financial discipline of women, contrasting it with corporate defaults. “If you give Rs 16 lakh crore to corporate companies, they default and flee the country. But if you give loans to women, they repay every rupee along with interest,” he said. He added that the government has already entrusted women with a 1,000-megawatt solar power project and assured that another 1,000 megawatts would be allocated if managed efficiently.

The Chief Minister said that the government is making a concerted effort to include more women in SHGs, especially in remote areas, and urban officials have been directed to organize special drives to support this objective.

He affirmed that the government’s mission is not only to empower women but to transform Telangana through their leadership, declaring that the policy of his administration is to support and encourage girls at every level.
