Neeraj stuns Olympic champion as India make strong progress across sports

Aichi-Nagoya, Sept 29 (UNI) Neeraj Chauhan produced one of India's standout performances on Day 10 of the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, stunning three-time Olympic champion Kim Je-deok of South Korea 6-4 to storm into the men's recurve individual quarterfinals.
Neeraj, who trailed 0-4 early in the contest, fought back strongly before holding his nerve in the deciding set to complete a notable upset. He will face Bhutan's Dorji Lam in the quarterfinals.
Dhiraj Bommadevara also advanced to the last eight with a 6-2 victory over Chinese Taipei's Cheng Hsiang-Hui. He will meet Uzbekistan's Amirkon Sadikov in the quarterfinals.
India's tennis campaign also gained momentum, with Anirudh Chandrasekar and N. Sriram Balaji reaching the men's doubles quarterfinals after a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Nepal's Abhishek Bastola and Pradip Khadka.
In men's singles, Sumit Nagal and Dhakshineswar Suresh progressed to the pre-quarterfinals, keeping India's challenge alive.
The women's squash team completed a perfect Pool C campaign with a 3-0 victory over Iran. Tanvi Khanna and Anahat Singh won their singles matches before Joshna Chinappa completed the clean sweep.
India had earlier defeated China and Japan and advanced to the quarterfinals with three wins from three matches.
In volleyball, India fought back from two sets down against Qatar to level their Pool C contest 2-2 and force a decider, with the winner finishing top of the group. Both teams had already secured quarterfinal berths.
India also advanced four paddlers to the canoe slalom semifinals. Hitesh Kewat and Pradhyumna Singh Rathod progressed in the men's kayak single, while Pallavi Jagtap and Rina Sen advanced in the women's canoe single and Shikha Chouhan in the women's kayak single.
Sport climbing provided another bright moment as 19-year-old Joga Purty broke her own national record in the women's speed qualification. She clocked 7.28 seconds, bettering her previous mark of 7.37 seconds set at the Asian Championships, and secured a place in the quarterfinals.
In cricket, persistent rain washed out all four men's quarterfinals, leaving India to face Sri Lanka in the semifinals without either side playing their quarterfinal.
Sri Lanka advanced at Nepal's expense on the basis of their higher team ranking, while India had similarly progressed after their quarterfinal was abandoned without a ball being bowled.
Pakistan will meet Bangladesh in the other semifinal.
