Sailing: Harshita Tomar, Shital Verma clinch women’s skiff bronze

Gamagori, Oct 1 (UNI) Harshita Tomar and Shital Verma clinched the bronze medal in the women’s skiff event at the Asian Games here on Thursday, adding another medal to India’s sailing campaign at Aichi-Nagoya.
The Indian pair finished third after nine races in the opening series with 24 net points and 28 total points.
Tomar and Verma remained in medal contention through the competition and produced a strong showing in the opening series. The duo finished second in the third and fourth races, underlining their consistency in the nine-race series.
The women’s skiff event is being contested in the 49erFX class, a high-performance two-person skiff. The sailing competition at Kaiyoh Yacht Harbor has been affected by variable wind conditions, resulting in delays and changes to the racing schedule.
India also secured a medal in the men’s skiff event, with Manu Francis and Prince Kurisinkal Noble winning silver after finishing second in the nine-race opening series.
The two skiff medals add to India’s sailing haul at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games, with the country’s sailors making their presence felt across the events.
