Asian Games cricket: Sri Lanka, Bangladesh enter semifinals

New Delhi, Sep 29 (UNI) Sri Lanka and Bangladesh advanced to the men’s cricket semifinals at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Tuesday after both their quarterfinals were washed out by rain without a ball being bowled.
Sri Lanka’s match against Nepal was abandoned earlier in the day, before Bangladesh’s quarterfinal against Malaysia at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin met the same fate after persistent rain prevented even the toss.
Under the tournament rules, the higher-ranked team progresses when a knockout match is abandoned. Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, therefore, moved into the last four based on their superior positions in the ICC T20I rankings, while Nepal and Malaysia were eliminated.
India will face Sri Lanka in Thursday’s semifinal, while Pakistan will take on Bangladesh in the other last-four clash.UNI TB AAB
