West Indies add Amir Jangoo as cover for injured Jewel Andrew for India T20Is

Lucknow, Oct 5 (UNI) Amir Jangoo has been added to the West Indies T20I squad for the upcoming five-match series against India as cover for Jewel Andrew, who sustained a finger injury during the third ODI on October 3.
The injury occurred while Andrew was completing the catch of Naman Dhir at cover off Gudakesh Motie in the 36th over of India's innings. Andrew successfully held on to the catch to dismiss Dhir, but sustained a blow to his finger in the process.
He was taken to hospital for an x-ray and further assessment, with scans revealing no fracture.
Andrew did not return to the field immediately after the incident and subsequently did not bat during West Indies' record successful chase in New Chandigarh. He remains under observation by the West Indies medical team and has not been ruled out of the T20I series.
Jangoo brings strong recent form into the T20I setup. While he has featured in seven T20Is since making his international debut in December 2024, it was his performances in the ODI series against India that earned plenty of attention.
He scored an unbeaten 58 in the opening ODI, followed it with 114 in the second and added 67 in the third to finish the series with 239 runs.
That tally placed Jangoo third among the leading run-scorers across both sides, behind India captain Shubman Gill and West Indies skipper Shai Hope.
His inclusion adds another wicket-keeping and batting option to the West Indies squad ahead of the five-match series.
Jangoo's T20I record currently stands at 163 runs from seven matches at a strike rate of 120.74. He will now look to carry his ODI form into the shortest format as West Indies prepare for their first T20I against India in Lucknow on Tuesday.
West Indies updated T20I squad:
Shai Hope (c), Roston Chase, Matthew Forde, Shimron Hetmyer, Akeal Hosein, Amir Jangoo, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Keemo Paul, Kamil Pooran, Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford, Quentin Sampson, Romario Shepherd, Shamar Springer.
