Extraordinary scenes, Rauf-Jacks spat mark Pak's one-wicket win over Eng

Lahore, Oct 25 (UNI) An extraordinary 89-run last-wicket partnership between Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf rescued Pakistan from the brink of defeat at 154 for nine, with the hosts needing 88 runs to win, as they edged England by one wicket in a dramatic fourth match of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series here on Sunday.
The thrilling finish was marked by an overturned dismissal and a heated verbal exchange between Rauf and England's Will Jacks.
Pakistan registered their third consecutive victory to top the three-team standings with six points from three matches, having earlier defeated Sri Lanka by 37 runs and England by 87 runs. The dramatic finish was marked by an overturned dismissal and a heated verbal exchange between Rauf and England's Will Jacks.
With Pakistan staring at defeat, Shadab produced a remarkable unbeaten 113 off 96 balls, including 13 fours and five sixes, while Rauf provided crucial support to steer the hosts to 243 for nine in 47.1 overs and seal victory with 17 balls to spare.
The contest reached a dramatic flashpoint when Shadab was given out leg-before-wicket off Gus Atkinson. With Pakistan's hopes seemingly over, England players began celebrating and exchanging handshakes, believing they had secured victory.
However, Shadab reviewed the decision, and UltraEdge revealed a faint inside edge, prompting the on-field umpire to overturn the verdict. Shadab, who had appeared devastated by the initial decision and struck his bat against the ground, responded with a fist pump as Pakistan's hopes were revived. England's players were left stunned by the reversal.
Tensions escalated shortly afterwards when Sam Curran bowled a bouncer to Shadab that was not called wide. The Pakistan batter repeatedly looked towards the square-leg umpire for a signal but received none.
Meanwhile, Rauf became involved in a heated verbal exchange with Jacks, prompting umpire Sharfuddoula to intervene. Former England captain Joe Root also stepped in to calm Rauf as the officials worked to defuse the situation.
Shadab held his nerve through the tense closing stages, completing a remarkable rescue act after Pakistan's top order collapsed. The hosts had slipped to 31 for three before further wickets left them reeling at 154 for nine, with England appearing firmly in control.
Earlier, England were bowled out for 241 in 46.4 overs, with Ben Duckett top-scoring with 105 off 111 balls, including 10 fours and two sixes. He steadied the innings after England lost Tom Banton, Joe Root and captain Harry Brook cheaply, and shared a crucial 93-run fifth-wicket partnership with Sam Curran, who scored 42.
Pakistan captain Shaheen Afridi led the bowling attack with four wickets for 46 runs, while Arafat Minhas and debutant Razaullah claimed two wickets each.
For England, Jamie Overton took three wickets for 43 runs, while Gus Atkinson and Liam Dawson claimed two wickets apiece.
Sri Lanka occupy second place in the standings with two points from two matches after beating England by two wickets. They will face Pakistan on October 27 before taking on England on October 29.
England remain winless after three matches, sitting at the bottom with no points and a net run rate of minus 0.733, following defeats against Pakistan twice and Sri Lanka once.
Pakistan's remarkable chase, led by Shadab's unbeaten century and the decisive last-wicket stand, not only delivered a thrilling victory but also confirmed their place in the tri-series final.
Brief Scores:
England: 241 all out in 46.4 overs (Ben Duckett 105, Sam Curran 42, Gus Atkinson 36 not out; Shaheen Afridi 4/46, Arafat Minhas 2/26, Razaullah 2/38).
Pakistan: 243/9 in 47.1 overs (Shadab Khan 113 not out, Saad Baig 32, Salman Agha 26; Jamie Overton 3/43, Gus Atkinson 2/62).
Result: Pakistan won by one wicket.
