Vaishnavi, Deepti shine as India thrash Zimbabwe by 121 runs

Vadodara, Oct 25 (UNI) Centuries from Harmanpreet Kaur and Deepti Sharma, followed by a four-wicket haul from Vaishnavi Sharma and three wickets from Deepti, powered India Women to a commanding 121-run victory over Zimbabwe Women in the second ODI here on Sunday.
India posted an imposing 328 for six in 50 overs before bowling out Zimbabwe for 207 in 48.5 overs.
Harmanpreet struck 126 off 121 balls, hitting 15 fours, while Deepti remained unbeaten on 106 off 86 deliveries, also hammering 15 boundaries. The duo stitched together a match-defining 153-run partnership for the fifth wicket after India lost two early wickets.
Smriti Mandhana fell for a duck in the first over, followed by Shafali Verma's dismissal for eight. Pratika Rawal steadied the innings with a fluent 61 off 67 balls, including four fours and two sixes.
Pratika and Harmanpreet added 124 runs for the third wicket before the former departed at 143. Tejal Hasabnis fell soon after for three, but Harmanpreet and Deepti took charge, transforming India's innings with an authoritative partnership.
Harmanpreet's century was aided by Zimbabwe's fielding lapses, as the India captain survived three dropped catches. Nyasha Gwanzura missed a chance at short midwicket, Michelle Mavunga failed to hold on to an opportunity at long-on, and Nomvelo Sibanda subsequently dropped another catch at backward point.
Harmanpreet capitalised on the reprieves to register her eighth ODI century before departing for 126 in the 47th over, caught by substitute fielder Kudzai Chigora off Michelle Mavunga.
Deepti continued to dominate with a succession of sweeps and well-placed drives, reaching her half-century before completing her second ODI hundred in the 50th over. She swept Tendai Makusha for four to reach the milestone and followed it with another boundary through the off-side, helping India finish strongly.
Chasing 329, Zimbabwe began positively through Modester Mupachikwa, who scored 49, and Chipo Mugeri-Tiripano, who made 46. The pair helped the visitors reach 107 before Mugeri-Tiripano was bowled by Sayali Satghare in the 23rd over.
Mupachikwa, who looked set for a half-century, became Vaishnavi's maiden ODI wicket when she was caught by substitute fielder Harleen Deol at backward point for 49.
Beloved Biza contributed 34 and captain Josephine Nkomo made 20, but Vaishnavi struck again to dismiss Biza leg-before-wicket after a successful India review. Nkomo was also trapped in front by Vaishnavi, who went on to dismiss Michelle Mavunga to complete an impressive four-wicket haul.
Deepti then produced a decisive late burst, removing Nyasha Gwanzura leg-before and dismissing Nomvelo Sibanda and Tendai Makusha in successive deliveries. She finished with three wickets for 32 runs.
Jintimani Kalita claimed the final wicket when Chiedza Dhururu was caught by substitute fielder Harleen Deol for 12, ending Zimbabwe's innings at 207 in 48.5 overs.
Vaishnavi returned figures of four for 39 in 10 overs, while Sayali Satghare, Jintimani Kalita and Shree Charani took one wicket each.
The emphatic victory highlighted India's batting depth and the effectiveness of their spin attack, with Harmanpreet and Deepti's centuries setting up the win before Vaishnavi and Deepti dismantled Zimbabwe's middle and lower order.
