Mighty Marathas Beat Chero Archers in Thrilling Shootoff at Archery Premier League

Hyderabad, Oct 12 (UNI) Mighty Marathas staged a remarkable comeback to defeat Chero Archers in a thrilling shootoff at the Archery Premier League (APL) Season 2 in Hyderabad on Monday, extending their winning streak to three matches.
After the teams finished regulation time locked at 4-4, Aman Saini and Dhiraj Bommadevara hit the yellow ring in the league's signature hit-or-miss shootoff.
Compound world No. 1 Mathias Fullerton scored for Chero, but misses by the team's other three archers handed Marathas a 2-1 victory in the tiebreaker.
Chero started strongly, taking the opening set through Yashdeep Bhoge, who was named in place of Atanu Das. However, the second and third sets were split between the teams in a high-quality contest.
The fourth set went down to the wire, with officials reviewing a couple of closely placed arrows before awarding the set points to Marathas.
Aman Saini's first arrow, initially scored as a nine, was upgraded to a 10, helping his team force the shootoff.
Saini finished the match with a perfect score of 60 out of 60 and followed it up with a successful shootoff hit.
Dhiraj Bommadevara also delivered a crucial hit in the tiebreaker to seal the victory.
"It's easy for me," Saini joked after the match when asked about his high-scoring performance.
He added that the results reflected a process built on hard work and said it was rewarding to see those efforts pay off for the team.
Mighty Marathas, who began the season with two defeats, have now registered three consecutive wins to move level with Chero Archers on six points.
Chero have lost two matches in tiebreakers this season.
The victory sets the stage for an intense second half of the league phase, which begins on Tuesday.
Chero Archers will face defending champions Rajputana Royals in the opening match, followed by a clash between Prithviraaj Yodhas and Mighty Marathas.
The day will conclude with the Southern Derby between Kakatiya Knights and Chola Chiefs.
The Archery Premier League, the world's first franchise-based archery league, was initiated by the Archery Association of India.
The second season features six teams and 48 archers, including 36 Indians and 12 international stars. Matches are being held at People's Plaza in Hyderabad, with the tournament scheduled to culminate on October 18. The top four teams will compete in the semifinals before the title clash.
