Maha: Nashik collector reaches out to farmers, persons with disabilities ahead of Diwali amid drought

Nashik, Nov 6 (UNI) Amid conditions of drought in parts of Maharashtra, Nashik District Collector Ayush Prasad today undertook a doorstep outreach initiative to ensure that farmers and persons with disabilities receive their entitled government benefits and are able to celebrate Diwali without additional hardship.
Acting on the directions of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he visited beneficiaries at their homes, reviewed ration distribution and interacted with farmers to understand their concerns.
Collector Prasad visited Government Fair Price Shop No. 33 in Mhasrul and reviewed the ration distribution system.
During the inspection, he went beyond reviewing distribution figures and enquired whether food grains had reached every eligible household and whether any beneficiary had been left out. He also sought information about whether beneficiaries were being informed about the availability of ration through SMS and WhatsApp.
He directed officials to complete the distribution of food grains by Friday evening and ensure that no eligible beneficiary returned empty-handed.
As part of the initiative, Collector Prasad visited the residence of Kavita Baburao Solase, a beneficiary with a disability, at Palkhed village in Dindori taluka.
The woman was delighted to see senior government officials visiting her home. Collector Prasad personally handed over food grains to her and extended Diwali greetings while enquiring about the well-being of her family.
He also checked whether she was receiving her disability pension regularly, whether the amount was being credited to her bank account and whether she was benefiting from other government welfare schemes.
The initiative reflects the administration's approach of ensuring that persons with disabilities do not have to visit government offices repeatedly to access benefits, but instead receive government services at their doorsteps.
Officials were instructed to ensure that all eligible beneficiaries receive food grains and other entitled benefits, with visits to every concerned household to be completed by Friday night.
Sub-Divisional Officer Appasaheb Shinde, Nashik Tehsildar Pankaj Pawar and officials and staff from the Supply Department were present.
Amid the drought situation, Collector Prasad also interacted with farmers to understand their concerns and difficulties. He enquired whether they had received the financial assistance of Rs 5,000 and reviewed the implementation of various government schemes.
Emphasising the importance of every drop of water under the prevailing conditions, he appealed to farmers to use available water carefully and in a planned manner.
Niphad Tehsildar Vishal Naikwade was present during the interaction.
Farmers expressed satisfaction over the Collector's visit, describing it as a reassuring gesture. They said that having a senior district official visit their village, listen to their concerns and understand their difficulties during such challenging times was a major source of encouragement.
During the visit, Collector Prasad also met farmers Vikram Wamanrao More at Kokanagaon in Niphad taluka and Hemant More at his residence.
Through doorstep ration distribution, personal interactions with persons with disabilities, reviews of government welfare schemes and direct engagement with farmers, the district administration demonstrated a people-centric approach that went beyond routine official duties.
Beneficiaries, villagers and other residents appreciated the initiative, stating that the administration's personal outreach during the festive season had added to the joy of Diwali, particularly for families facing difficulties due to drought.
