Maharashtra Cabinet approves direct Rs 5,000 aid for drought-hit farmers ahead of Diwali

Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) In a major financial relief for the state's agriculture sector, the Maharashtra Cabinet on Wednesday announced an immediate direct cash assistance of Rs 5,000 per head to farmers affected by drought-like conditions across the state.
Announcing the decision after the cabinet meeting, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the key measure aims to cushion farmers facing severe economic distress due to extensive Kharif crop losses caused by rainfall deficits. The sanctioned amount will be directly credited into the bank accounts of farmers before the upcoming festival of Diwali, providing much-needed financial support to the agrarian community.
In the same meeting, the state cabinet unanimously passed a special resolution honouring Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completing 25 years as a 'Head of State' in public governance, spanning his tenures as Chief Minister and Prime Minister.
Briefing reporters on the resolution, Fadnavis said Modi consistently embodied the role of 'Pradhan Sevak', establishing new benchmarks for 'Antyodaya' (uplifting the last person) and good governance while holding the Constitution as the ultimate guiding document.
The resolution acknowledged landmark decisions executed under his leadership, including the revocation of Article 370, the construction of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and surgical strikes against hostile forces.
The cabinet also lauded the central government's support towards Maharashtra's cultural heritage and development initiatives. The resolution made special mention of conferring 'Classical Language' status on Marathi, placing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's Royal Seal ('Rajmudra') on the Indian Navy ensign, and ongoing efforts to secure UNESCO World Heritage tags for 12 historic forts in the state.
Furthermore, the resolution expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister for facilitating key socio-economic projects, including land allocation for Dr B.R. Ambedkar’s memorial at Indu Mill, establishment of the state Defense Corridor, the development of 'AURIC City' in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, and strong backing for Maharashtra's emerging startup ecosystem.
