Mumbai, June 23 (UNI) Mumbai police have busted a sex racket in a raid at a residential premises in the Baiganwadi area of Govandi in the city and rescued three females, including two minor girls, and detained a 42-year-old woman identified as Shama Shahnawaz Patel, who is accused of running the illegal operation, an official said on Monday.
According to police, a case has been registered in Shivaji Nagar Police Station against Shama Patel under the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act. She has been served a notice for further legal action.
The two rescued minors have been placed in the Deonar Remand Home for their safety and rehabilitation.
On credible information, about prostitution activities at a room located at Plot No. 23, Road No. 10 in Baiganwadi.
Acting swiftly, police conducted a raid at around 3 PM on Sunday, officials further said, adding that during the operation, two 17-year-old girls and a 35-year-old woman were rescued from the premises. The accused, Shama Patel, was taken into custody on the spot.
The police seized Rs 8,000 in cash, a mobile phone, screenshot prints, and a memory card containing video footage from the premises. A case has been registered against Shama Patel, and she has been issued a notice to appear for further investigation, police officials said.
