Take measures to reduce number of deaths in road accidents: Pune District Collector Dudi

Pune, June 23 (UNI) Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi today called for necessary measures to be implemented in the district to reduce the number of accidents, as well as the creation of public awareness on accident spots (blackspots) in the district.
Speaking at the District Road Safety Committee meeting organised at the District Collector's Office, Dudi said that there are a total of 42 blackspots in Pune district, 15 within the limits of Pune Municipal Corporation, 22 under National Highways Authority of India, two under Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation, one under Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation and two under Public Works Department.
Short-term and long-term measures should be taken at these places for road safety, he emphasised
Measures such as banning or restricting access to such places for a certain period of time, installing directional boards, clearing the road, barricading etc. should be taken. These measures should be inspected by the Police Administration and Regional Transport Department and a report should be submitted within the next one month, he directed.
The causes of accidents that have occurred in the district in the last one year should be found out place-wise. Accordingly, safety measures should be advised to all the concerned departments, which should be followed by all concerned, he added.
