Model Shraddha Dubey, wanted in Lucknow murder case, arrested in Nagpur

Nagpur, Oct 20 (UNI) Fashion model Shraddha Dubey, wanted in connection with the alleged murder of Lucknow cafe owner Shiva Sharma, was arrested in Nagpur on Tuesday by a joint team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and Lucknow police, officials said.
Dubey, 31, had been evading arrest for 11 days and was found hiding in a flat on Wardha Road.
The team apprehended her at around 3.30 pm with assistance from the Nagpur police Crime Branch, officials said.
Sharma, 28, allegedly fell from the fourth floor balcony of an apartment building in the Balu Adda area of Hazratganj in Lucknow on October 9.
What was initially treated as an accidental death subsequently became a suspected murder case after his family alleged that he had been assaulted and tortured before being thrown from the building.
Dubey, who was reportedly in a live-in relationship with Sharma, is among the key accused in the case.
Her sister Rashmi, their driver and two other persons have also been booked for murder by the Hazratganj police.
The Lucknow police had initially announced a reward of Rs 25,000 each for information leading to the arrest of Dubey, Rashmi and another accused, Tanvir Ali alias Danish. The bounty was subsequently raised to Rs 50,000 each.
The case gained renewed attention after a video interview with Dubey surfaced on Sunday, in which she denied any role in Sharma’s death and claimed that he had died by suicide because of financial difficulties.
According to Dubey, Sharma was burdened with debts of Rs 15 lakh to Rs 20 lakh and had allegedly spoken of ending his life if he failed to repay the amount.
Recounting the events of October 9, she claimed that Sharma had entered a bathroom at her residence and locked the door from inside. She said she asked her sister to check on him, but Sharma jumped from the balcony before the door could be opened.
Dubey has denied allegations that Sharma was assaulted or tortured, asserting that CCTV footage would clarify the circumstances surrounding his death.
She also claimed to have handed over Sharma’s mobile phone to the police, saying it could provide details of his conversations with lenders.
Sharma’s mother, Ranjana, has repeatedly sought the arrest of those accused in the case and rejected Dubey’s suicide theory. She has also questioned why Dubey did not provide this version of events to the police earlier.
