Viral video of notorious drug trafficker Sunny Pagare from Nashik Road Central Jail raises serious security concerns

Bharat Ghandat
Nashik, Sep 30 (UNI) A viral video allegedly recorded by Sunny Pagare, the prime accused in a high-profile drug trafficking case that shook Maharashtra, has raised serious questions about security arrangements at Nashik Road Central Jail.
The video, reportedly filmed inside the prison, has exposed potential loopholes in the jail's security system, triggering concern within the police department and the state Home Department.
Despite claims of a three-tier security system, state-of-the-art CCTV surveillance and strict monitoring, Pagare's video has surfaced on social media, prompting questions about whether prisons are serving their intended purpose of punishment and rehabilitation or becoming spaces where influential inmates can enjoy unauthorised privileges.
According to sources, Pagare was allegedly not only recording reels and videos inside the prison but was also maintaining regular contact with people outside through a specific mobile number.
Investigators examining the call detail records (CDR) of the number could potentially uncover links between an alleged network operating inside the prison and individuals coordinating activities from outside.
Experts have pointed out that the alleged presence of a smartphone with a high-profile inmate, despite multiple layers of security checks, raises serious questions about possible collusion involving prison staff.
Who facilitated the entry of a mobile phone for a drug trafficking accused despite stringent security checks from the prison gates to the barracks? Was any prison staff member involved?
Since Pagare himself appears in the video, who was operating the mobile phone? Was it another inmate or a prison guard?
Will the administration once again suspend a junior employee and close the matter, or will it conduct a thorough CDR investigation and register cases against those allegedly involved in the larger conspiracy?
The emergence of the video has reportedly triggered widespread anger among Nashik residents and raised concerns in administrative circles. The central questions remain: How long has such activity allegedly been taking place inside the prison, and who are the officials responsible for the security lapses?
All eyes are now on the Inspector General of Prisons and the Maharashtra Home Department to see what action they take in response to the alleged breach of security at Nashik Road Central Jail. The viral video has brought prison security, accountability and the possibility of an organised network operating from behind bars into sharp focus.
