Islamic scholar launches Waqf manifesto linking theology to modern governance

Mumbai, June 30 (UNI) Prominent Islamic scholar Mufti Manzoor Ziaei launched his seminal work, "Waqf: From Sharia to Politics - In the Indian Context", at an academic gathering here today, framing the Islamic endowment system as a transformative vehicle for national development.
The event, attended by religious leaders, academics and social thinkers, positioned the book as both an intellectual awakening and practical blueprint for reclaiming India's Islamic heritage.
Ziaei's treatise transcends traditional jurisprudential discourse, analysing Waqf through social, educational, economic and political lenses.
"Waqf represents a flowing river capable of revitalising our nation's deteriorated condition," the scholar asserted, "provided its course is strategically redirected."
The work synthesises complex Sharia principles with accessible analysis of Waqf's historical trajectory in India, colonial-era exploitation, institutional weaknesses in Waqf boards, protracted legal disputes, illegal encroachments and political interference.
The author specifically addressed reforms within the 2024 Waqf Act, endorsing provisions for digital registration, geo-tagging of properties, expert involvement, empowered tribunals, and actions against illegal occupants.
"These reforms offer genuine hope," Ziaei noted, "but will only bear fruit through collective public vigilance and promotion."
He emphasised that Waqf must evolve beyond legal terminology into an effective developmental instrument.
Attending scholars unanimously hailed the publication as timely, with several dubbing it "the nation's manifesto of awareness" and "a document of knowledge and action".
The launch coincided with the announcement of a nationwide "Waqf Awareness Campaign" to disseminate the book's principles through madrasas, colleges, mosques and social platforms.
Slated for multilingual publication in Urdu, Hindi, and regional languages, the work targets readers seeking pathways for national resurgence.
Ziaei's thesis demands not merely academic engagement but actionable commitment to leveraging Waqf institutions for societal advancement.
