Old Monk ban in Maha costs state Rs 350 Crore in excise revenue, manufacturer reports Rs 500 crore loss

Mumbai, Oct 14 (UNI) The suspension of Old Monk sales in Maharashtra has reportedly caused significant financial losses for both the state government and the brand’s manufacturer. The state is estimated to have lost Rs 350 crore in excise revenue, while the company has claimed losses of approximately Rs 500 crore.
The figures were presented by the manufacturer in a petition before the Bombay High Court, which has brought the economic impact of the restrictions into focus.
According to the company’s court submission, the suspension of Old Monk sales has reduced Maharashtra’s excise collections by an estimated Rs 350 crore.
Excise duty on alcoholic beverages is an important source of revenue for state governments, and restrictions affecting a widely sold brand can have a substantial impact on collections.
The 350 crore figure is based on information submitted by the manufacturer and represents an estimate of the revenue allegedly lost by the state.
The manufacturer has told the Bombay High Court that it incurred losses of around Rs 500 crore after Old Monk sales were suspended in Maharashtra.
The company says the restrictions have affected its business in one of the country’s major markets.
However, the Rs 500 crore amount remains a claim made in the company’s petition and has not been independently established.
