Actor Imran Khan Challenges FRRO Notice in Bombay HC, Seeks Protection From Deportation

Mumbai, Oct 17 (UNI) The US-based actor Imran Khan has moved the Bombay High Court challenging a notice directing him to leave India by October 28, arguing that the order issued by the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) is arbitrary, disproportionate and unconstitutional.
In his writ petition, the 44-year-old actor has sought the quashing of the Leave India Notice (LIN) and an immediate stay on its implementation until the court decides the matter. He has also sought interim protection against any coercive action by the authorities.
The petition is likely to be mentioned before the High Court on Monday for an urgent hearing, given the October 28 deadline specified in the notice.
The legal challenge comes amid a controversy surrounding Khan's detention during a protest against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in Mumbai. The actor was reportedly detained during the protest at August Kranti Maidan on October 10. The subsequent action by the immigration authorities has brought his immigration status and the legality of the notice under judicial scrutiny.
The High Court's consideration of the petition could involve examining the legal basis for the notice, the procedure followed by the authorities and whether the actor was given a fair opportunity to respond, subject to the applicable immigration laws and the grounds recorded in the order.
