Accused in Tiger Shroff Car Firing Case Booked Under MCOCA, to Be Produced for Remand Tomorrow

Mumbai, Oct 28 (UNI) The Mumbai Police on Wednesday invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against all the accused arrested in connection with the firing incident involving actor Tiger Shroff's car in Juhu area, an official said.
The accused will be produced before the MCOCA court on Thursday for remand, police sources said.
According to police sources, approval to invoke MCOCA was granted by the competent authority on October 27, following which the relevant provisions of the stringent anti-organised crime law were added to the case.
The incident occurred on October 18 in the Juhu area, where unidentified persons allegedly opened fire at Shroff's car. An FIR was registered on October 19 under Sections 109(1) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Sections 3 and 25 of the Arms Act.
Following the approval to invoke MCOCA, Sections 3(1)(ii), 3(2) and 3(4) of the Act were added to charges against all the accused arrested in the case, police sources said.
The decision to invoke the stringent legislation followed the emergence of an alleged organised crime angle during the investigation, according to police sources.
MCOCA provides a legal framework to deal with organised criminal activities and prescribes stringent penalties for offences falling within its ambit. Its applicability is subject to the statutory requirements prescribed under the law. UNI AAA CDS
