BJP accuses Rahul Gandhi of fueling public discontent, questions protest against Supreme Court

Mumbai, Oct 13 ( UNI) BJP Maharashtra vice-president Keshav Upadhye on Tuesday accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of attempting to create public discontent against constitutional institutions and the government, alleging that his recent protests reflected what he described as “ideological Naxalism”.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP’s state office, Upadhye said Gandhi had repeatedly faced electoral defeats over the past 12 years and is now attempting to mobilise public opinion against the existing system. He criticised Gandhi’s protest against the Supreme Court and alleged that the Congress leader has made baseless claims regarding the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls without providing adequate evidence.
Upadhye claimed that Gandhi's petition before the Supreme Court was incomplete and lacked sufficient supporting documents.
He also accused Gandhi of misrepresenting the outcome of his meeting with the President, alleging that he had falsely claimed that the President had accepted his demands and asked him to submit evidence.
The BJP leader alleged that the Congress is attempting to undermine public confidence in Parliament, the government and other constitutional institutions. He claimed that repeated disruptions in Parliament and protests against institutions are part of a broader attempt to create distrust in the democratic system.
Upadhye further accused Gandhi of aggravating social divisions for political gain. He alleged that the Congress is seeking to return to power by fuelling discontent among different sections of society after remaining out of power for several years.
Citing four instances to support his criticism, Upadhye referred to Gandhi’s reported meeting with Chinese officials during the Doklam standoff, his statements following India’s Operation Sindoor against Pakistan, and his recent social media response to comments by Elon Musk concerning India.
He questioned Gandhi’s positions on these issues and accused him of echoing views that were critical of India’s interests.
