Kolhapur: Gokul Chairman election: Quorum crisis puts Satej Patil's alliance in a spot ahead of Oct 29 poll

Kolhapur, Oct 23 (UNI) A major political twist has emerged in the Kolhapur District Cooperative Milk Producers Union, popularly known as 'Gokul Dudh', chairman's election scheduled for October 29, due to a critical quorum shortfall.
Even Congress leader Satej Patil's Samvichari Alliance won the election by capturing a thin majority of 13 out of 25 seats, cooperative bylaws of Cooperative rules section 73(AAA), mandate that a minimum quorum of 14 directors must be physically present to legally conduct the chairman selection meeting.
Satej Patil's alliance holds 13 seats, while the rival Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, NCP(AP), Shiv Sena (Shinde) and Jansurajya Party, holds 12 seats. Neither side independently commands the 14 directors needed to meet the quorum requirement.
If the 12 Mahayuti directors purposefully boycott or abstain from the October 29 meeting, the required quorum of 14 will not be fulfilled, legally preventing the election of the announced candidate of Samvichari Aghadi, Shashikant Patil-Chuyekar, son of late founder and Gokul chairman late Anandrao Patil-Chuyekar.
According to cooperative rules, if a meeting is repeatedly postponed (up to three times) due to a lack of quorum, the government can step in to appoint an administrator to oversee the dairy union.

To break the deadlock before the deadline, both political factions are currently engaged in intense behind-the-scenes negotiations, either trying to win over an opposition director or engineering a mutual compromise to avoid an administrative takeover.
Meanwhile, Mahayuti alliance party leaders held a meeting at Kolhapur district Central Cooperative Bank office premises in Shahupuri to review the situation after the declared results and also discuss this issue.
State ministers Hasan Mushrif, Prakash Abitkar, MP Dhananjay Mahadik, MLA Amal Mahadik and other senior leaders were present.
