NCP reiterates demand for finance portfolio in Maharashtra

Raigad, Oct 23 (UNI) Intensifying power-sharing dynamics within the ruling Mahayuti coalition, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has strongly reiterated its claim over the state's vital finance portfolio, declaring it to be a foundational stance of the party since its inception.
Addressing a party gathering in Raigad district, NCP State President Sunil Tatkare stated that while formal discussions with Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar on this specific matter are yet to take place, the demand remains entirely justified. He added that the leadership is prepared to reopen dialogue with the Chief Minister if required.
The high-stakes political intervention comes as the ruling alliance navigates multiple fronts, including opposition attacks and unfolding controversies across the state.
Tatkare launched a sharp counter-offensive against opposition leader Rohit Pawar, accusing him of making statements tailored strictly to political convenience. Brushing aside controversy surrounding the ruling delegation's recent interaction with union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Tatkare clarified that the meeting occurred alongside an official audience with the President of India, warning critics against indulging in "childish politics" based on mere speculation.
Commenting on Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil's recent allegations and contentious audio clip regarding a purported 500-crore conspiracy, Tatkare maintained that Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde had already articulated the government's official position. While acknowledging Jarange Patil's extensive grassroots mobilisation, Tatkare affirmed that the NCP has historically stood firmly in support of reservations for the Maratha community.
On the law and order front, the NCP chief defended Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, expressing full confidence in the Maharashtra Police's swift investigative capabilities following high-profile security incidents, including the murder of Baba Siddique and firing incidents near celebrity residences.
Addressing the agrarian crisis, Tatkare assured that the administration has prioritised relief operations, noting that a cabinet sub-committee led by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule is continuously reviewing drought mitigation to ensure direct assistance reaches affected farming communities beyond conventional administrative limits.
