CJP To Go Ahead With Shivaji Park Protest Despite Permission Denial

Mumbai, Sept 30 (UNI) Cockroach Janata Party founder Abhijeet Dipke has said the organisation will proceed with its October 2 protest at Gate 6 of Shivaji Park in Dadar despite being denied permission by Mumbai Police.
The protest is directed against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and is linked to the CJP's demands concerning the functioning of the Election Commission and the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Dipke appealed to citizens to participate in large numbers, linking the demonstration with Gandhi Jayanti and calling upon people to take a pledge to save democracy.
The CJP has also been mobilising support for the demonstration through social media. In one post on X featuring an image of Mahatma Gandhi, the organisation urged people to travel to Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti to join what it described as a campaign to save democracy.
In another social media post, the CJP referred to grievances involving demands for roads, alleged action by a minister, remarks made in court and police lathicharge during street demonstrations. The organisation claimed that voting had remained an option for opposing the government but alleged that this right was now also being undermined. It called upon citizens to resist what it described as a threat to democracy.
Mumbai Police have, however, denied permission for the proposed gathering. Dipke criticised the decision as unacceptable and alleged that it was an attempt to suppress citizens' voices. He said that if permission was not granted, the organisation would proceed with its proposed Jail Bharo Andolan on Gandhi Jayanti.
According to the information provided, permission was denied after the organisers failed to submit the required BMC approval for using the ground. Authorities also raised concerns about possible noise pollution and traffic congestion. Shivaji Park's status as a silence zone and the presence of hospitals in the surrounding area were also cited among the concerns.
Residents of the Shivaji Park area have also reportedly objected to the proposed protest. They raised concerns about inconvenience to residents, the impact on children who use the ground and possible difficulties for ambulances attempting to enter the area during an emergency.
Despite the objections and denial of permission, the CJP has said it intends to proceed with the protest at Shivaji Park. Its demands include the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, changes to the legal framework governing the Election Commission and action concerning the Special Intensive Revision exercise.
