Maha: Congress Accuses Modi of Focusing on Rahul Gandhi Instead of National Issues at World Summit

Pune, Oct 25 (UNI) Maharashtra Congress senior spokesperson Gopaldada Tiwari on Sunday criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for targeting Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi during the NDTV World Summit, alleging that the PM had devoted considerable attention to criticising the Congress leader instead of addressing key national and international issues.
In a statement, Tiwari questioned why Modi spent time criticising Gandhi on an international platform if he considered the Congress leader “unproductive and unsuccessful”.
He said the Prime Minister should have used the platform to discuss India's progress in various sectors, inflation, unemployment, international challenges and concerns over the United States' policies, instead of focusing on the Opposition leader.
Tiwari said such remarks were inconsistent with the dignity of the Prime Minister's office and alleged that Modi's criticism reflected his hostility towards the Opposition.
Referring to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Tiwari said the Congress increased its tally from 52 seats in 2019 to 99 in 2024, while the BJP's tally declined from 303 to 240 seats. He argued that the election results reflected a shift in the public mandate.
He also alleged that the BJP leadership was overlooking its dependence on allies, including Telugu Desam Party leader N. Chandrababu Naidu and Janata Dal (United) leader Nitish Kumar, to maintain its government at the Centre.
Tiwari further referred to allegations concerning central agencies and the Election Commission during the BJP-led government's tenure, questioning the ruling party's interpretation of the 2024 electoral verdict.
He said the Prime Minister should focus on governance, national priorities and the country's achievements rather than repeatedly criticising Opposition leaders. UNI SP CDS
