NAINA infrastructure projects launched to ensure planned urban growth near Navi Mumbai Airport: Maha CM

Navi Mumbai, Oct 25 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today performed the 'Bhoomi Pujan' (ground-breaking ceremony) for key infrastructure projects of the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA), a planned city being executed through the City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO), to prevent unsystematic and chaotic expansion around the upcoming international airport.
Addressing the gathering, he highlighted that the Navi Mumbai International Airport is not merely a transport hub, but an economic multiplier capable of single-handedly contributing one per cent to the regional Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Acknowledging past delays despite approvals granted during Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s tenure as CM and Urban Development Minister, Fadnavis pointed out that the projects had previously hit a roadblock due to a trust deficit among local farmers regarding CIDCO’s land distribution process. He stated that the government intervened by empowering CIDCO to resolve mapping overlaps and corrected ownership titles, ensuring that ground-breaking proceeded only after physical land title documents were handed over to affected landholders.
In a major assurance to project-affected persons, CIDCO released a comprehensive handbook detailing land distribution, Floor Space Index (FSI) allocations, and policy provisions for small landowners and encroachments, which Fadnavis described as the "Geeta for project-affected people."
Highlighting the project's economic impact, the Chief Minister announced that NAINA is expected to generate approximately 1.5 million jobs, including 500,000 high-paying positions, with local sons of the soil receiving primary preference for employment opportunities.
Emphasizing regional growth dynamics, Fadnavis stated that the coastal and industrial belt comprising Thane, Navi Mumbai, Raigad, and Palghar districts will function as the key growth engine driving Maharashtra's progress over the next 50 years.
The event also marked the inauguration of the Uran Bypass alongside assurances of seamless, signal-free travel from Worli to the Navi Mumbai Airport via the Atal Setu corridor within the next 6 to 8 months. To address long-term civic necessities, the state government has accelerated water storage projects including the Poshir, Kalu, and Kondhane dam schemes.
Dignitaries including Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Pawar were present at the occasion.
