CJP announces ‘Jail Bharo’ stir in Mumbai on October 2 after protest permission denied

Mumbai, Sep 28 ( UNI) The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), led by Abhijeet Dipke, has announced a ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ in Mumbai on October 2 after the Mumbai Police denied permission for its proposed protest at Shivaji Park against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Dipke had earlier announced that the CJP would launch a protest on October 2 if Kumar did not resign. Following the denial of permission, he reiterated that the party would go ahead with its agitation. In a post on X, Dipke said the CJP would hold a ‘Jail Bharo Andolan’ in Mumbai on Gandhi Jayanti and used the hashtag #SaveDemocracy.
In another post, Dipke announced that the proposed agitation would be held at 4 pm on October 2 at Shivaji Park and wrote, “Gyanu, javanch lagel…” (“Gyanu, you will have to go…”). The CJP has been demanding Kumar’s resignation and has also raised objections to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and the functioning of the Election Commission.
The Mumbai Police, however, said permission could not be granted for a gathering at Shivaji Park in view of a Bombay High Court order and subsequent Maharashtra government directions. Police also cited issues including the absence of the required civic permission, possible traffic congestion and noise pollution.
The CJP had initially approached the authorities seeking permission for its October 2 protest. After the application was rejected, Dipke criticised the decision and said that denying permission would not deter the organisation from holding the agitation. The latest announcement has therefore brought the proposed protest into sharper focus.
Meanwhile, another major political mobilisation against the Election Commission’s SIR exercise has been announced in Mumbai.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray and Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray have announced a joint public march on October 4. The two parties have said they will invite leaders and workers from other political parties to participate. The exact route and timing of the march are yet to be announced.
The back-to-back announcements of the CJP protest on October 2 and the Thackeray-led march on October 4 have put Mumbai at the centre of the ongoing political debate over the Election Commission and the SIR exercise. UNI SP AAB
