Heavy rainfall forecast in Maharashtra

Mumbai, May 21 (UNI) A low-pressure area forming over the sea near the Karnataka coast is expected to cause significant changes in the weather across Maharashtra, with the Meteorological Department forecasting pre-monsoon rains in Mumbai, Konkan and other parts of the state until May 31.
According to the Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in the Konkan region and central Maharashtra for three days on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
The department has forecasted that between May 21 and May 31, Mumbai and the entire Konkan region are expected to experience intense to extremely intense rainfall.
Due to this weather shift, Maharashtra is likely to witness below-average maximum daytime temperatures and minimum morning temperatures, as stated by meteorologist Mank Rao Khole.
Districts expected to be most affected by the rainfall include Sindhudurg, Ratnagiri, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, Solapur, Dhule, Latur, Beed, Parbhani and Nanded.
Unseasonal rains have already damaged approximately 27,000 hectares of crops in the state, with 13,000 hectares affected in Amravati and 5,850 hectares in Nashik alone.
Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate has been informed of the situation and he has ordered immediate preparation of damage assessment reports (panchanamas) to be submitted at the earliest.
