Maha declares drought in 265 tehsils across nearly three-fourths of state

Nagpur/Mumbai, Sep 26 (UNI) The Maharashtra government on Saturday declared drought in 265 of the state's 358 tehsils following deficient rainfall and prolonged dry spells that have adversely impacted crops across vast parts of the state.
With the declaration, nearly three-fourths of Maharashtra has come under drought conditions, paving the way for crop loss assessments and the implementation of relief measures for affected farmers.
Under the relief package, farmers will be eligible for concessions such as waiver of land revenue, restructuring of crop loans and suspension of recovery proceedings related to agricultural loans.

Kolhapur, Sep 28 (UNI) A man was killed on the spot while his wife was seriously injured when a speeding car hit their motorcycle, on the Vadgaon-Hatkanangale road at Vadgaon in Hatkanangale tehsil of this district today.
According to Vadgaon police, Deepak Ravsaheb Shinde, a resident of Miraj town in Sangli district, was returning home with his wife Aashadevi after meeting a relative when a speeding car rammed their bike after the car driver lost control on the wheel.
