Southwest Monsoon advances over bay of Bengal, south Arabian sea

Pune, May 21 (UNI) Southwest Monsoon further advanced over some more parts of south Arabian sea, Maldives and Comorin area; south Bay of Bengal; some more parts of central Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeast Bay of Bengal on Wednesday, India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The conditions are likely to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during next 3-4 days. The conditions are also likely to become favourable for further advance of southwest Monsoon over some more parts of south Arabian sea, the IMD bulletin said.

Favourable conditions for advance of south west Monsoon are also likely in remaining parts of Maldives and Comorin area; some parts of Lakshadweep area, Kerala, Tamil Nadu; some more parts south and central Bay of Bengal, north Bay of Bengal and some parts of northeastern states during the same period.
Day Temperatures were markedly above normal ( >5.1°C) at Isolated places over Jammu-Kashmir and Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad; appreciably above normal (3.1°C to 5.0°C) at Isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, west Rajasthan.
The temperatures were above normal (1.6°C to 3.0°C) at isolated places over Punjab, west Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Odisha, east Rajasthan.
The temperatures were near normal (-1.5°C to 1.5°C) at many places over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan and Goa, Marathwada, Vidarbha, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Telangana, Kerala and Mahe, Rayalaseema; at a few places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal, east Uttar Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Assam and Meghalaya, Jharkhand;
The temperatures were also normal at Isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, interior Karnataka.
On Tuesday, the highest maximum temperature of 46.6°C was reported at Banda (east Uttar Pradesh) in the country.
Hailstorms observed at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, east Uttar Pradesh, east Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
Heat wave to severe heat wave conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of east Rajasthan; heat wave conditions in isolated pockets of east Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan.
Warm night to severe warm night conditions prevailed in isolated pockets of Rajasthan; warm night conditions in isolated pockets of Haryana.
Rain or thundershowers have occurred at most places in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, coastal Karnataka and north interior Karnataka and at many places in Assam and Meghalaya, Sub Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Madhya Maharashtra, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Rayalaseema, south interior Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep.
Rain and thunderstorms have also occurred at a few places in Arunachal Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Marathwada, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and Andaman and Nicobar Islands and at isolated places in Odisha, Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmirand Ladakh, east Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh and Gujarat.
Mainly dry weather has prevailed in west Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and west Rajasthan, the IMD said.
