Mumbai Police detain two minors for allegedly molesting 16-year-old girl with autism

Mumbai, May 23 (UNI) Mumbai police have detained two teenage boys for allegedly molesting a 16-year-old girl with autism spectrum disorder, officials said on Friday.
The incident, which reportedly occurred about a month ago near a government hospital in central Mumbai, came to light recently during the girl’s therapy session, when she disclosed the details to her therapist.
According to police, the girl is the only child of a single mother who works at a beauty parlour.
Her father separated from the family several years ago. The complainant told authorities that, due to work commitments, she often has to leave her daughter alone at home and has sometimes found her wandering in areas far from their residence, such as Santacruz and Nagpada.
Based on the mother’s complaint filed on April 28, the girl, a Class 10 student, was allegedly groped and kissed by the two boys while she was playing in a garden near the hospital.
Following the complaint, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Investigators traced the two accused, both residents of Kanjarwada in Agripada, and served them notices under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. The minors will be presented before the Child Welfare Committee for further proceedings, police said.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of vulnerable children and have urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, especially when children are left unsupervised.
