Ukraine Defence Ministry says speed, connectivity of Starlink restored after 2 weeks

Kyiv, Oct 24 (UNI) Ukraine's Defence Ministry today said that the speed and connectivity of the satellite networks used by its military had been fully restored after two weeks of restrictions that hampered drone operations.
The ministry said its monitoring systems had detected a return to normal performance on SpaceX's Starlink and the US government-controlled Starshield networks, recording speeds exceeding 400km/h with stable connectivity.
The restrictions had affected Ukraine's ability to use interceptor drones against Russian attacks and deploy its own drones to deliver supplies to troops on the front lines. They also threatened operations involving intelligence gathering and long-range strikes against Russian targets.
The disruption became a source of tension between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump and SpaceX chief executive Elon Musk.
Zelensky viewed the restrictions as retaliation for his refusal to halt Ukrainian strikes on Russian oil refineries, although Trump denied that the White House had ordered the slowdown.
The dispute also prompted criticism from both Republicans and Democrats in the US and sparked a public exchange over who was responsible for the restrictions.
Ukraine relies on Starlink for battlefield communications, logistics, reconnaissance and defensive drone operations. Starshield, which is controlled by the US government, is used for certain offensive military operations.
Trump had repeatedly claimed that connectivity had been restored, despite Ukrainian officials continuing to report problems. On Friday, he denied reports that he had spoken to Musk about the issue but assured that he would contact the billionaire if restrictions remained in place.
The Ukrainian Defence ministry attributed the restoration to "direct dialogue" and a "firm stance at the highest level" by Zelensky.
