Haryana courts Singapore investment in semiconductors, green energy and data centres

Singapore, Oct 6 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini held roundtable discussions with more than a dozen Singaporean firms on Tuesday as his government seeks to position the north Indian state as a hub for technology-led manufacturing and global capability centres.
On the third day of his visit to Singapore, Saini pitched investment opportunities across sectors, including semiconductors, green energy, warehousing, and basic infrastructure, at an event organised under the Singapore Business Forum, his office said in a statement.
"We aim to develop cities such as Gurugram, Panchkula, Karnal, Hisar, Sonipat and Rohtak as Global Capability Centres and the next growth centres for technology-led businesses," Saini told representatives of the Singapore companies, according to the statement.
Haryana, which already hosts a cluster of multinational companies in Gurugram, is looking to diversify its investment base beyond traditional IT and automotive hubs. The state government said it is specifically targeting Singaporean collaboration to expand its industrial footprint in high-tech and sustainable sectors.
Saini also highlighted the state's forthcoming policy framework, noting that Haryana plans to introduce a Data Centre Policy in 2026 to support digital infrastructure expansion. "Keeping future plans in mind, we are bringing a Data Centre Policy 2026," he said.
Officials said the discussions focused on leveraging Haryana's existing advantages in manufacturing and logistics to attract foreign capital and technical expertise. The state borders the Indian capital New Delhi and has emerged as a key node in India's northern industrial corridor.
"Manufacturing and logistics are sectors where Haryana has a special advantage," Saini told the forum.
The Chief Minister's outreach to Singaporean businesses forms part of a broader push by Indian state governments to attract foreign investment ahead of the federal government's ongoing efforts to position India as an alternative manufacturing hub to China.
Singapore is one of India's largest foreign investors and a frequent partner in infrastructure and technology projects. Haryana's government did not name the specific companies involved in Tuesday's roundtable, but said the talks covered "concrete investment proposals" across multiple sectors.
The visit is expected to continue with further government-to-business meetings before Saini returns to India later this week.
