Italian PM Giorgia Meloni postpones weapons package for Ukraine till US midterms

Rome, Oct 28 (UNI) Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has reportedly postponed a major new military aid package for Ukraine until after the US midterm elections on November 3, as opposition to further weapons deliveries grows within her governing coalition.
The 13th Italian military aid package for Kyiv remains stalled despite repeated assurances from Rome that it will continue supporting Ukraine, Italian newspaper La Repubblica reported on Tuesday. Initially expected in July, the shipment was pushed back to September before facing further delays.
The latest postponement has raised questions over whether Meloni will fulfil commitments made to French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to supply additional Aster 30 interceptor missiles for Ukraine's SAMP/T air defence systems by the end of October.
