Pak detains over 250 PTI members; party to move court against emergency in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Islamabad, Oct 12 (UNI) Pakistani authorities have detained leaders of jailed former prime minister Imran Khan’s party, the latest escalation in a political crackdown a day after President Asif Ali Zardari imposed emergency rule in the northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and suspended its provincial government. The PTI has condemned the emergency as "unconstitutional and a targeted crackdown," accusing the federal government of seeking to prevent its supporters from marching on Islamabad to demand Khan’s release and medical treatment, as per Pakistani newspaper.
The party is mulling to challenge the imposition of emergency rule and the suspension of its provincial government in the court, with possible legal avenues including the Peshawar High Court and higher constitutional forums, as per The Express Tribune reports.
As per reports over 270 members of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party had been detained in the province since Sunday’s emergency declaration.
