Bangkok declared a disaster zone after regions of Thai capital record 30cm rainfall in 48hrs

Bangkok, Sep 26 (UNI) Bangkok has been declared a disaster zone after parts of the Thai capital recorded more than 30cm (12 inches) of rain in less than 48 hours, leading to widespread flooding of roads and causing disruption in large parts of the city.
Torrential rain began on Thursday and is expected to continue until Sunday, Thailand’s Meteorological Department warned.
The city’s central and eastern parts were among the worst-hit areas, where floodwater blocked roads and brought traffic to a standstill. Cars were left partly submerged, while residents waded through knee- and waist-high water to reach homes and shops.
