NMC asks medical colleges to join sixth anniversary of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

Panchkula, Oct 8 (UNI) The National Medical Commission (NMC) has asked medical colleges and academic institutions across the country to actively participate in the sixth-anniversary observance of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan (NMBA), the government's flagship campaign to prevent substance abuse and promote a drug-free society.
NMC Secretary Dr Raghav Langer said the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment is organising a commemorative event, tentatively scheduled for the second or fourth week of October 2026, and has sought wider participation and publicity among medical students.
The NMBA was launched in 2020 with a focus on reducing demand for drugs through awareness, community mobilisation and preventive interventions. The campaign forms part of the government's broader objective of building a Drug-Free India by 2029.
Following a request from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the NMC has asked Deans, Principals, and Directors of medical institutions to encourage faculty members and students to participate in campaign-related activities.
The Commission has called upon institutions to facilitate the NMBA e-pledge, organise awareness programmes on the harmful effects of substance abuse and undertake community outreach activities involving medical students.
Medical colleges have also been asked to promote a healthy, substance-free environment on their campuses and in surrounding communities.
The NMC said participation by medical students and institutions would help strengthen public awareness about the health and social consequences of substance abuse and contribute to the national effort to prevent drug dependence.
