Nurpur police seized 15.33 grams of heroin in Dhangupir, one arrested

Nurpur ( Kangra), Oct 21 (UNI) Nurpur police have arrested a 39-year-old man after recovering 15.33 grams of heroin, locally known as chitta, from his residential house in New Basti Dhangupir in Kangra district, police said on Wednesday.
The recovery was made on October 20 during a joint operation by the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA), Nurpur, and the Dhangupir police post under Damtal police station, following a tip-off that the accused was allegedly selling heroin to customers from his residence.
The police identified the accused as Gurpinder Singh, son of Jagtar Singh, a resident of New Basti Dhangupir, under Indora tehsil of Kangra district.
During a search of the house, the police recovered a plastic container labelled “Patanjali Honey” from a cupboard in an upstairs room. A transparent polythene packet containing a light-coloured granular and powdery substance was found concealed among clothes inside the container.
A test using a drug detection kit indicated the presence of heroin. The substance was weighed on an electronic scale and found to be 15.33 grams, which was subsequently seized and sealed as per procedure.
A case (FIR No. 159/2026) has been registered at Damtal police station under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Further investigation is underway to ascertain the source of the contraband and determine whether other individuals or a supply network were involved in the alleged drug trade.
Nurpur police have appealed to the public to report drug trafficking and suspicious activities and cooperate with the police in building a drug-free society.
