Odisha Govt. releases several climate-resilient, high-yielding crop varieties

Bhubaneswar, June 18 (UNI) The Odisha Government today released several new short-duration, climate-resilient, and high-yielding crop varieties aimed at boosting farmers' income.
A meeting of the Odisha State Seed Sub-Committee, chaired by Principal Secretary of the Agriculture Department, Dr. Arabinda Kumar Padhee, approved the release of multiple agricultural crop varieties for the state.
According to official sources, three non-paddy varieties—OUAT Kalinga Maize 1 (Khushi), OUAT Kalinga Mustard 2 (Samruddhi), and OUAT Kalinga Mustard 3 (Siddhi)—have been approved. The mustard varieties are noted for their high yield and superior oil content.
Additionally, four paddy varieties developed by OUAT—OUAT Kalinga Rice-3 (Sampada), OUAT Kalinga Rice 12 (Paraja), OUAT Kalinga Rice 12A (Padmaja), and OUAT Kalinga Rice 14 (Shreepada)—along with seven paddy varieties from CRRI, Cuttack—CR Dhan 215 (Indumati), CR Dhan 325 (Salila), CR Dhan 334 (Satyadev), CR Dhan 335 (Alok), CR Dhan 604 (Kalpana), CR Dhan 705 (Ganga), and CR Dhan 912 (Ashutosh Mehek)—have also been considered for release.
These new varieties, both paddy and non-paddy, are expected to significantly enhance farmers' income.
Dr. Padhee stated that cultivating these varieties is a step toward a more sustainable and climate-resilient agricultural future. The committee has also decided that priority should be given to climate resilience, short duration, and nutritional value while developing new crop varieties.
