Odisha Govt sounds peak flood alert in Balasore

Bhubaneswar, June 29 (UNI) The Odisha Government today issued a peak flood alert for Balasore district and directed the District Collector to expedite evacuation and relief operations.
According to official sources, incessant rainfall in Jharkhand and in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts has led to a continuous rise in the water levels of the Subarnarekha, Budhabalanga, and Jalaka rivers.
As of now, the Subarnarekha River is flowing at 8.41 meters at Rajghat, against the danger mark of 10.36 meters.
The Budhabalanga River is at 6.94 meters at Govindpur, compared to its danger level of 8.13 meters.
Meanwhile, the Jalaka River is already above the danger mark, flowing at 6.65 meters at Mathani, exceeding the danger level of 6.50 meters.
In this context, peak flood levels are anticipated as follows:
· Subarnarekha River – 11.25 meters at Rajghat by 12:00 midnight
· Budhabalanga River – 8.20 meters at Govindpur by 9:00 AM on June 30, 2025
· Jalaka River – 6.82 meters at Mathani by 6:00 PM today
The State Flood Cell under the Department of Water Resources is operating round the clock and is continuously monitoring the situation.
