Odisha, Japan set to strengthen ties in investment, industry and skill development

Bhubaneswar, Nov 5 (UNI) Odisha is set to strengthen its economic and industrial partnership with Japan, with a high-level delegation from Japan’s Tottori Prefecture scheduled to visit the State from November 10 to 12.
The three-day visit is expected to open up new avenues for investment, trade, industrial cooperation, entrepreneurship, skill development, tourism and cultural exchange, while laying the foundation for a long-term strategic partnership between the two regions.
The Japanese delegation will be led by Tottori Prefecture Governor Shinji Hirai and will include Chief Secretary Toshiki Endo, Director General of the Commercial Department Sasaki, San-in Godo Bank Director Yoshioka, members of the Tottori Prefectural Assembly, business representatives and student delegates.
The visit is being organised as part of Odisha’s efforts to attract global investments, expand international economic engagement and strengthen its position as an emerging destination for industrial development.
Industries, Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampad Chandra Swain said the visit would provide an important platform to explore new areas of cooperation between Odisha and Japan.
He said the three-day programme would feature high-level discussions, business interactions and institutional engagements aimed at strengthening mutual understanding and establishing sustainable partnerships.
As part of the programme, Startup Odisha will organise a special business interaction at O-Hub in Bhubaneswar. Entrepreneurs, business leaders and representatives from both regions will participate in the interaction to explore opportunities for collaboration in startups, innovation, entrepreneurship and commercial activities.
A dedicated business roundtable will also bring together Japanese business representatives, government institutions and industry stakeholders to discuss investment opportunities and identify potential areas of mutual interest.
A major highlight of the visit will be the presentation of Odisha’s investment potential and industrial ecosystem before the Japanese delegation.
Representatives of Japanese companies already operating in Odisha will also take part in the discussions. The interaction is expected to facilitate conversations on fresh investments, expansion of existing business relationships and opportunities for Japanese enterprises to explore Odisha as a destination for industrial growth.
One of the key events of the visit will be a bilateral meeting between Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Tottori Governor Shinji Hirai. The two leaders are scheduled to sign a Friendship and Cooperation Agreement at an official programme at the State Convention Centre in Bhubaneswar on the second day of the visit.
The proposed agreement is expected to establish an institutional framework for cooperation between Odisha and Tottori Prefecture in areas of shared interest, including economic development, industry, education, technology and cultural exchange.
The second day will also witness the exchange of two important Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) aimed at strengthening institutional cooperation.
The first MoU will be signed between Startup Odisha and the Director of Industries, Tottori Prefecture, to promote collaboration in entrepreneurship, innovation and startup development.
The second MoU will be signed between Odisha’s World Skill Center and Tottori Prefecture, focusing on cooperation in skill development and related areas.
As part of its engagement with Odisha’s skill development ecosystem, the Japanese delegation will visit the World Skill Center at Mancheswar in Bhubaneswar. The delegation is also scheduled to visit the Indo-Nissin manufacturing facility at the Food Processing Park in Khordha.
