Odisha varsity faculty member shines in world of art and craft

Bhubaneshwar, June 28 (UNI) The foray made into the world of art and craft by a faculty member of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA) here has enabled her to turn into an entrepreneur who has been empowering women from the underprivileged background.
Alongside her academic pursuits, Dr. Rupsa Das, faculty in the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology in the Institute of Dental Sciences (IDS), has earned a diploma and degree respectively from the Lalit Kala Academy and Bangiya Sangeet Parishad inspiring her to launch her own brand known as ‘Artistrii’.
“I have more than ten persons working with me now and we have a MSME registered business which has been showcasing our artistic skills through handicrafts, wall paintings and sand art,” Dr. Das said.
Dr. Das had been selected to participate in a start-up show organised by Britannia at the national level and featured in an episode which was aired on Jio Hotstar. She was the only finalist from 40 participants from Odisha to be chosen for the show.
Britannia has been promoting ‘Artistrii’ as an initiative to support women entrepreneurs, she said adding she has been selected to undergo training under the Women Entrepreneurship Program of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The host of the show was actor Shreya Sharan while actor Neha Dhupia, author Dr. Vinita Raj, award winning author and Celebrity Masterchef Ms. Shipra Khanna, Chief Technology Officer, NSDC Mr. Shreshtha Gupta and Founder of Vishnu Prasad Research Centre Mr. Vishnu Prasad, were among the judges.
Simultaneously, Dr. Das won an award for submitting the best paper in faculty category in the National Summit on Maxilofacial Imaging organised by the Saveetha Dental College, Chennai. She has more than 50 publications in national and international journals to her credit till now.
“I am thankful to SOA University for providing a nurturing environment which allowed faculty members like me to pursue their passions and interests,” she said.

Bhubaneswar, June 28 (UNI) Coming down heavily on the BJP-led Odisha Government for the "chaos and glaring mismanagement" during the observance of Rath Yatra at Puri, the Opposition BJD today said Chief Minister Mohan Majhi and Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan should own moral responsibility for the lapses and resign. The BJD also demanded the government must immediately disclose the official number of deceased and injured persons in the stampede that occurred.
