Odisha Vigilance arrests chief engineer in assets case

Bhubaneswar, May 31 (UNI) Odisha Vigilance Department officials on Saturday arrested Baikuntha Nath Sarangi, chief engineer, Plan Roads, RW Department, in a disproportionate assets (DA) case.

Vigilance sources said he will be forwarded to the court of special judge, Vigilance Anugul.

Sarangi was found in possession of assets, including over Rs 2.56 crore in cash, two multi-storeyed buildings, two flats, 7 high-value plots in Bhubaneswar, Anugul and Pipili, bank deposits of Rs 1.5 crore, investments in shares, mutual funds, and insurance Rs 2.7 crore, gold over 1.141 kg,15 imported costly watches during house searches by the sleuths of Vigilance Department on Friday.

Vigilance sources said the total movable and immovable property of Sarangi unearthed is likely to exceed Rs 13 crore.

He was arrested as he could not satisfactorily account for the assets.

The investigation is continuing.
