Palmeiras beats Bragantino to extend lead in Brazil's Serie A championship

Rio De Janeiro, May 19 (UNI) Mauricio Prado struck a late winner as leader Palmeiras came from behind to clinch a 2-1 away victory over Bragantino in Brazil's Serie A championship.
The hosts took the lead in the 24th minute on Sunday when Gabriel Franco received Lucas Barbosa's layoff and lashed a low 20-yard drive past the outstretched arms of goalkeeper Weverton.
Murilo Cerqueira equalized in the 72nd minute by rising highest to nod home at the near post following Estevao's delivery from the corner flag.
Prado completed a remarkable turnaround 12 minutes from time as he took a touch to control a failed clearance before calmly placing his left-footed shot into the near corner.
"Bragantino is a great team with a lot of promising young players who aren't afraid to take the initiative," Prado told reporters after the match.
"But we never give up and we showed today that we are prepared to fight until the last minute. We have a lot of games coming up in a short period of time. We have to stay focused and remember that every player - whether it be a starter or a substitute - has an important role to play."
The result leaves Palmeiras with 22 points from nine games, four points clear of second-placed Flamengo. Bragantino is fourth in the 20-team standings, five points off the pace.
In other Brazilian Serie A fixtures on Sunday, Internacional drew 1-1 at home to Mirassol, Cruzeiro was held to goalless home draw by Atletico Mineiro, Botafogo drew 0-0 at Flamengo, Corinthians edged to a 1-0 home win over Santos and Fluminense drew 1-1 at Juventude.
