Panchkula gets major development push: 5,470 CCTV cameras, 100 MLD more water, 7,500 flats in pipeline

Panchkula, Sep 30 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has directed officials to accelerate a comprehensive development plan for Panchkula, with emphasis on future-ready infrastructure, seamless mobility, reliable water supply, modern housing, green spaces, markets, sports facilities and technology-driven public safety.
Chairing a review meeting on Wednesday, Saini said Panchkula’s development must be planned not merely around its present requirements but also its future needs, with long-term projects implemented on priority.
A major technology-led security upgrade is on the cards, with 5,470 CCTV cameras proposed on major roads across Panchkula. A command and control centre will be established at the Dial-112 police building for real-time monitoring and analysis.
The system will also facilitate online challaning of vehicles. A six-line dedicated optical fibre network has been proposed for Panchkula, Kalka and Pinjore to support CCTV surveillance as well as future technological requirements.
With water demand rising, the Chief Minister directed officials to work on increasing the capacity of Bhakra water supply to Panchkula by 100 MLD.
A permanent solution to the drinking water problem in Kalka was also stressed.
The government is also examining construction of a dam in the Morni area for rainwater harvesting, while work is underway to enhance the capacity of the Kaushalya Dam.
For Khadak Mangoli residents, the process to construct 7,500 flats is expected to begin soon.
Saini directed authorities to prepare a proposal to redevelop the rehri markets in Sectors 7, 11 and 17 on the lines of Chandigarh’s Palika Bazaar.
A proposal will also be prepared to redesign Majri Chowk and construct an underpass to address traffic congestion and provide a long-term mobility solution.
A dedicated corridor around the Mansa Devi temple has also been proposed. At Saketari, a plan is being prepared for developing a golf club and botanical park along with a green belt on 117 acres of land.
The shooting range sports complex coming up over 9.5 acres is being developed with facilities for 10-metre, 20-metre and 50-metre events capable of hosting competitions at the international level.
A hostel will also be constructed after completion of the range.
The Chief Minister also reviewed drainage, sewage and urban beautification projects. Two sewage treatment plants of six MLD each and another of 10 MLD capacity are under construction.
PMDA CEO and Information, Public Relations and Languages Department Commissioner and Secretary K. Makrand Pandurang said 162 of 183 complaints received from citizens have already been resolved.
Estimates have been prepared for repair of service roads, while road-side painting and beautification works are underway. Road repairs in Industrial Area Phase I and II are being undertaken at a cost of Rs 16.80 crore.
The Atal Park is targeted for completion by November, while an estimate has been prepared for the Laser Valley Park.
The meeting was attended by ULB Commissioner and Secretary Ashok Meena, HSVP Administrator and Chief Minister’s Deputy Principal Secretary Ajay Kumar, OSD Pankaj Nain, Panchkula Deputy Commissioner Satpal Sharma and senior officials of various departments and PMDA.
