Persons imprisoned during Emergency honored by Nashik District Collector Jalaj Sharma

Nashik, June 25 (UNI) The Nashik District Administration today honoured those persons imprisoned during the Emergency 50 years ago.
The programme was held in the morning in the central hall of the District Collector's Office.
District Collector Jalaj Sharma along with Resident Deputy Collector Rajendra Wagh, District Information Officer Gopal Salunkhe, Naib Tehsildar Narendra Jagtap, Loktantra Senani Sangh President Eknath Shete, Vice President Suresh Saikhedkar, Ramakant Kulkarni along with persons imprisoned during the Emergency and their heirs were present in large numbers.
District Collector Sharma felicitated the persons imprisoned by presenting them with a certificate of honor signed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and roses.
The District Collector and other dignitaries inspected the photo exhibition organised through the District Information Office on this occasion.

District Collector Sharma said that through the district administration, the persons who had to undergo imprisonment during the Emergency are being honored. Such an initiative will be useful in further empowering and strengthening Indian democracy.
The state government will be informed about the demands made by the Loktantra Senani Sangh. He also said that the state government has decided to double the honorarium of the persons who had undergone imprisonment during the Emergency.

Shete, Bhanudas Yeola, Dinkar Deshmukh, Jayashree Kulkarni, Dhananjay Kulkarni, Ramakant Bhavsar, Damodar Gaurkar etc. expressed their views. They said that the Emergency was declared suddenly. Many people staged a Satyagraha for democracy. During this period, many people were imprisoned. The Indian Constitution was misused. After that, after the public opinion went against it, the Emergency was withdrawn in 1977 and general elections to the Lok Sabha were declared, he said.

Resident Deputy Collector Wagh made the introduction. He said that today marks 50 years since the imposition of Emergency in the country. On this occasion, the district administration is felicitating the persons who were imprisoned during the Emergency and their heirs. On this occasion, a photo exhibition based on the Emergency has been organised through the District Information Office. District Information Officer Salunkhe expressed his gratitude.
Dhundiraj Honap and another elderly person were present at the Chief Minister's Support Room on the ground floor of the District Collector's Office for today's felicitation ceremony. District Collector Sharma went there and felicitated Honap.
