RSS chief Balasaheb Deoras supported the emergency: Maha Congress

Mumbai, June 25 (UNI) The Maharashtra Pradesh Congress today lashed out at the ruling BJP for raising a hue and cry about former prime minister late Indira Gandhi's decision to impose the Emergency in the country.
Talking to reporters here at the party headquarters, state Congress president Harshvardhan Sapkal defendedIndira Gandhi's decision to impose Emergency in 1975, arguing that her decision was constitutional.
Indira Gandhi had to make this decision due to the then-prevailing circumstances in the country, he continued.
He said that later, she, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi also admitted that certain administrative lapses occurred during that time, but the BJP continues to raise a hue and cry about it.
He further said that then Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Balasaheb Deoras also had supported the Emergency and even publicly distanced the organisation from Jayaprakash Narayan's movement and questioned whether the stand taken by Balasaheb Deoras is unacceptable to BJP now.
After lifting of the Emergency, elections were held and democratic processes were restored in the country, the MPCC chief recalled and alleged that however, certain forces were attempting to create chaos in the country.
During the Emergency, Indira Gandhi didn't sell the country's assets or hand over public sector enterprises to few industrialists, he informed.
"But for past 11 years, there has been an undeclared Emergency in the country. Even Dharavi's land has been sold, and the BJP's insatiable hunger is threatening democracy," he alleged.
The BJP government has splurged crores on advertisements about the Emergency, he claimed and said that in these government ads, the national emblem is replaced by the Sengol.
“There's no need to elaborate what Sengol symbolises. The BJP wants to dismantle democracy, the Constitution and implement late RSS chief Madhav Golwalkar's 'Bunch of Thoughts',” alleged Sapkal.
